A Reason to Watch Television: Spike Lee Marathon
Starz InBlack will pay tribute to groundbreaking filmmaker Spike Lee on his 50th birthday with an all-day marathon of his movies and exclusive interview segments which feature Lee talking about his craft and his career as a writer, director, actor, producer, author and entrepreneur. The Spike Lee 24-hour Marathon will be shown exclusively on Starz InBlack on Tuesday, March 20.
The all day marathon will feature seven of Lee’s films, including School Daze, Crooklyn, Bamboozled, Summer of Sam, Girl 6 and the Starz Original documentary, A Huey P. Newton Story.
“Spike Lee is undoubtedly one of the most important filmmakers of his generation,” said Jonathan Shair, vice president of planning and scheduling, Starz Entertainment. “Starz InBlack is extremely proud to pay homage to this extraordinary director who has not only revolutionized filmmaking, but has had, and continues to have, a major impact on the presence of African Americans in cinema.”
As an extra treat for viewers, the marathon will also include exclusive and intimate interview segments with Lee. In these vignettes Lee speaks candidly about things such as the influence of his cinematic forefathers including Oscar Micheaux, Gordon Parks, Ossie Davis and Melvin Van Peebles, as well as other career challenges he has faced, how he has evolved as a filmmaker and what he hopes to accomplish in the future.
