No Shocker Here: Poll Finds Blacks Drawn to Christianity

blackchurch_01

Massuh got us good when he brought us over here and gave us his religion and after all these years, we still won’t let it go.

When it comes to African-Americans, a study shows they are more likely to practice Christianity compared to other racial groups.

According to a new study by the Barna Group, 66 percent of African-Americans agreed with the statement “the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches,” compared to 46 percent of whites and 49 percent of the general population.

According to the Baptist Press, the study was conducted by telephone with more than 1,200 adults who described themselves as African-American. Released this week, the study also found that faith continues to be important in the lives of African-Americans, an ethnic group that comprises about 15 percent of the national population.

Eighty-six percent of blacks, 70 percent of whites and 72 percent of the general population agreed that their religious faith is very important in their lives. However, only 18 percent of blacks, 11 percent of whites and 11 percent of the general population said “faith” was the highest priority in their lives.

Other findings by the study: African-Americans also were most likely to have an “active faith,” which means attending church services, praying to God and reading the Bible during the week, according to the survey.

  1. What a great picture!!!

  2. Peter says:

I daresay that the black community is very selective in what they follow as far as biblical teachings. They follow what’s convenient for them, not the ‘whole enchilada’

And before you criticize me, put down the shellfish!!

  3. Peter says:

You know …..after giving it additional thought I’ll amend my comments to include all ‘christians’. They all practice selective christianity (small ‘c’ is deliberate).

Jesus never mentioned homosexuality…..ever. But I’m sure there’s something in that book christians tote around that deals with divorce, adultery, and a whole lot of others.

What’s that? The old testament doesn’t count ? Says who? Did your god tell you that or was it the reverend on Sunday who “owns” your church and who drives the Rolls Royce that you’re paying for with your weekly donations?

I’m sorry – I don’t buy that line of BS.

I’m still trying to find out what religion my ancestors practiced.I hope to figure this out someday. On another note i’m sure some will be happy to know that the church I go to is one that actually requires to live the word of God which is why people come and leave so quickly. One of my favorite statements from pastor is would’nt you all love to hear me speak against homosexuality and that you’ll all hit the lottery but i’m not gonna do that with so many fornicators liars haters other sinners in the house of God today. He says this often then proceeds to preach against those things which is what keeps so many people uncomfortable which is why they don’t stay long. There’s a real expectation for people to come out of sin.He always says what you eat won’t make me go to the bathroom and tells us everyone has their own struggles and sins to overcome. He says we must not worry about what others are doing only our selves to save ourselves from sin.

Wow… this study is disturbing. When will blacks give up these oppressive Abrahamic religions that have been forced upon us? There has not been a more destructive aspect of life than religion, and no religion has been more destructive than those that can be traced to Abraham (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

Hopefully Blacks will soon overcome the religions of our old (or present?) masters and create new, more uplifting institutions and beliefs. Or, better yet, believe in one’s self.
