Another Day in L.A….Another Bank Robbery

Okay, so I just want to say that I hope that I am not the only that’s noticed the rash of “Dead Presidents” type bank robberies and broad daylight brazen muggings taking place in Los Angeles.

The latest such incident took place behind my house on 29th and Crenshaw at the Bank of America.

I didn’t know that was what had happened at the time, although I do remember thinking something must be going on because there was a number of “ghetto birds” hovering in the sky, more than usual. When I got the news, I headed around the corner to check things out for myself.

Apparently, according to the Los Angeles Times, a security guard at a Los Angeles bank was killed today after he was accosted by two suspects who took his gun and shot him with it, police said.

The guard, who was not identified, was approached by the suspects about 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Bank of America branch at 29th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, police said. Police were still searching the area for the suspects.

The victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital while undergoing surgery, LAPD spokeswoman Kate Lopez said.

Oh and in case you’re wondering–the suspects are African-American males. I guess they didn’t hear the news that Obama received the nomination.

The worse the economy gets the more we can expect see these types of crimes happening in our very own neighborhood. People are desperate and desperate people aren’t always thinking rationally. Caught in the crossfire are the ordinary people like myself and you who find ourselves in the right place at the wrong time. I say right place because that security guard was at work. At work in an economy where there are record numbers of people unemployed.

Rest in peace.

    Jasmyne,

Thanks for the report. I was driving down Chrenshaw and told the person on the phone that it looked like a robbery had occurred and that I hoped no one got hurt. While still out, I got your message on my Blackberry giving me the full story. This is a tragedy, and it also reminds me how much we depend on each other to find out what’s going on in our community. Keep up the good work!
